Like many of you, I’ve been deeply moved by the tragic wildfires in Southern California this month. My heart goes out to all of those affected, and I want to express my gratitude to the brave first responders who work tirelessly to protect lives and property in such challenging conditions.
I’d also like to recognize our own Salem Fire Department and personnel from Marion County who were deployed to provide support. A total of 44 Marion County firefighters and 10 engines, including Captain Michael Stewart and Engineers Zach Salvage, Michael Laatsch, and Cody Welling from Salem, joined the efforts to combat these devastating fires. Their willingness to step up and assist communities in need reflects the very best of what it means to serve.
Moments like these remind us of the critical role our public service departments play, both here at home and beyond, and I remain committed to supporting their efforts with care and intention.
